Developers handling Solana token accounts gained a direct route for passing address objects into key helpers. The Solana token client’s Oct. 16, 2026 update let developers pass address-bearing objects straight into its associated token account helpers. NFA.

Release Overview

SPL Token JS client 0.18.0 came out on Oct. 16, 2026. The package is listed on npm as @solana-program/token. Solana Program maintains the repository that holds the client.

Helper Changes

Associated token account helpers now accept HasAddress inputs. A web3.js PublicKey object can move straight into the helpers. No base58 string conversion is required.

Mint-to helpers expanded their address and authority inputs. Transfer-to helpers received the same expansion. Developers can supply address-bearing objects without extra steps.

Mint creation helpers now take the objects for mint authority and freeze authority. The change keeps authority handling consistent across creation and transfer flows.

Program Address Default

A custom token program address became the default inside the hand-written helpers. This adjustment lines up the hand-written tools with the generated client. Ownership flows stay uniform when code switches between the two sets of helpers.

Utility For Token Work

The updates center on ownership tasks. Developers manage token accounts with fewer manual conversions. Mint operations and transfer operations both benefit from direct object support. Authority settings for new mints follow the same pattern.

The changes reduce friction when code deals with signers and keys. Direct object passing supports clean ownership checks inside helper functions. Alignment between hand-written and generated clients keeps utility steady across different development paths.

Ownership Focus

Token ownership relies on accurate address handling. The HasAddress support lets objects carry their own address data. This keeps ownership logic inside the helper calls rather than in separate conversion steps.

Mint and transfer flows gain the same direct input style. Authority objects pass without extra formatting. The result is tighter control over who owns and manages each token account.

Alignment With Generated Client

Hand-written helpers now match the generated client on address inputs. Custom program addresses serve as the default in both places. Developers switching between tools see consistent behavior for ownership and authority tasks.

The Oct. 16, 2026 release packaged these input changes together. Each helper update supports direct use of address objects. Ownership and utility sit at the center of the adjustments.
