Sovereign Chain Exit Goes To A Vote

Token holders of a decentralized cloud computing network were asked on Oct. 26, 2026, to vote on moving off the network’s own chain and onto Solana.

The vote remains open through 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026.

Where The Vote Stands

The system being voted on is Akash, a rental marketplace for computing power. For now it is hosted on akashnet-2, a sovereign chain built with Cosmos tools. Oct. 27 counts put support at about 98% in favor.

Enough participation had come in to meet quorum, but the count can still shift.

Wider Context

Solana AKT can be added by wallets and exchanges once it exists on their own timelines.

Support for the token may arrive before the marketplace moves since the two are separate. The marketplace cutover can be halted through governance up to shortly before it happens.

Tokens moved through the portal stay moved once it opens. Other infrastructure networks have made the same switch from their own chains to Solana before this one. The team says the path is tested.

For Holders

Self-custody holders will connect a Cosmos wallet and pick a Solana address. No SOL has to be held to make the move.

Customer balances held on exchanges are moved by the exchanges on their own schedules. Console wallets handle the move on their own for their users. Tokens on chains linked through Cosmos must first go back to akashnet-2 before using the portal.

Only the home chain can supply AKT to the portal, per the plan.

The Token Move

Support from holders would let AKT launch on the Solana chain.

The standard involved is SPL, the token standard shared across Solana. Holders would use a one-way portal to move AKT on a 1:1 basis.

Moved tokens leave the old chain, so the overall total does not change. The Solana token cannot launch until a vote passes and two audits finish. The team intends to publish the date once the steps are done.

AKT stays with its ticker along with six decimals. Transfers through the portal cannot be undone once started.

The Case For Solana

The team started a public search for a host chain on Dec. 15, 2025. Every hard requirement was cleared by both Solana and an Ethereum layer-2 in that process. The team picked Solana and explained why in a post on Oct. 26, 2026.

The team’s case rested on lower costs under load, no single operator and a base of peer infrastructure networks. The network would not operate a chain of its own on Solana from then on.

Solana’s validators would be the ones confirming its transactions rather than its own validators.

The Solana Foundation extended an offer of engineering and audit help to the team. In the team’s account, it does not rely on that help in order to go ahead.

The Marketplace

This proposal does not relocate the marketplace for now. Leases and governance remain active on akashnet-2 in the meantime.

Relocating the marketplace is not possible until audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote are done.

The later vote would decide the cutover point in advance. From cutover onward, deployments would go to Solana rather than the old chain.

The old chain would wind down until it halts after that. Providers would move their software to a new version and sign up again on Solana themselves. Deployment files remain with their tenants.

At the halt, validators would give up their role on akashnet-2.

Why It Matters

What holders decide is whether a working network gives up its own chain in this vote. The outcome affects where its compute market will live in the long run.
